Photograph Description

Discovered 1892 by Edwin Holmes.

The entire orbit of this comet is 6.9 years. Occassionally, this comet has an outburst of gas as shown in this photograph. This current outburst started on October 24th, 2007.

Normally, this comet is extremely dim and can only be seen through long exposure photography, not the unaided eye. Over the course of the last month, the brightness has gone through almost a 1 million increase.
